MasterCard Black arrives in Bermuda

Butterfield Bank today introduced MasterCard® Black™, a prestigious new ‘above Platinum’ credit card that will be available to valued customers by invitation only.


The card, which features a minimum credit limit of $20,000, provides cardholders with access to unique global services as well as exclusive travel and insurance benefits.

Alan Thompson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Butterfield Bank said, “Customers who are invited to obtain a MasterCard Black card will not only benefit from MasterCard’s worldwide acceptance, they will also enjoy access to a unique and truly special suite of travel and entertainment services. We know of no other card available in Bermuda that provides these kinds of rewards and features.”


Butterfield Bank will be inviting existing Butterfield/AAdvantage Platinum MasterCard® cardholders to receive MasterCard Black over the coming weeks.

The new card will be a boon to well-traveled corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and socialites who will earn 1.25 American Airlines AAdvantage® miles for every dollar spent using the card.

MasterCard Black cardholders will have access to a Personal Assistance Service that goes beyond the services of a normal travel agency or concierge service, helping them make special arrangements for their overseas business needs including: protocol, translation and interpretation services; referrals for office and equipment set-up and referrals for temporary help services as well as entertainment reservations and shopping-hints for hard-to-find items.

In addition, MasterCard Black cardholders waiting to make a flight connection can relax and enjoy the hospitality of one of more than 430 V.I.P. Priority Pass™ Lounges at airports in 75 countries.

Whether traveling by air, land or sea the card offers a range of insurance services, including personal accident coverage of up to $1 million. Around the world, MasterAssist Black® offers 24-7 emergency assistance services that include; emergency medical and legal referrals, emergency cash, lost document and ticket replacement assistance as well as the transmission of urgent messages. MasterAssist Black also covers cardholders with additional medical insurance coverage of up to $25,000 (30,000 Euros for European countries). MasterRental™ will protect MasterCard Black cardholders from theft of or damage to rental vehicles.


MasterDelivery™ is available to help cardholders ship that perfect gift, documents or valuables back home.
