Get creative at the Island’s largest free art festival on Sunday 20 May

A fun-filled day of art-related events and contests for the entire family will take place at the tenth annual Butterfield Bank Art Festival, being held in the Botanical Gardens at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art on Sunday, 20 May from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Since its inception in 1998, the Butterfield Bank Art Festival has become a local favourite among both professional artists and amateur art-fanciers. This is not only because of its child-friendly art activities and ‘Quick Art’ contest, but also because all entrants have a chance to win prizes at the ‘Judge’s Choice’ and “People’s Choice’ Art Awards.

The theme for this year’s contest is ‘Bermuda is Another World’ and is open to all age and skill-levels, ranging from: “7 and under” to “professional artist”.

In the last decade, the Festival has received between 140 and 160 art entries per year and the 2007 Butterfield Bank Art Festival promises to be our best ever.

There will be a performing arts stage for live music, food and ice cream, face painting as well as opportunities for Festival-goers to try their hands at getting creative, including ‘Painters Hat Painting’ and mural painting. Tents will be erected in case of inclement weather.

Submitting artwork for display and judging is easy. Pick up an entry form at any of the Island’s Butterfield Bank branches; galleries like Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, Bermuda National Gallery and
Bermuda Society of Arts; or shops like Frameworks, Artcetera and Rock Island Coffee.

A $5 entry fee is required to submit art of any medium, however, admission to the Festival is free. Where
applicable, artwork should be mounted or framed for hanging. Those entering pieces in the Festival can
take their entry forms to Artcetera or Frameworks to receive a ten percent discount on framing and art
supplies. The deadline for entries is Friday, 4 May.

Butterfield Bank President & CEO Alan Thompson said, “Butterfield Bank has been supporting the arts in
Bermuda for the last decade by supporting annual Art Festivals. We are pleased to have contributed to
this worthy cause. We also help promote excellence in this field by each year offering two Butterfield Bank Visual Art Awards worth $10,000. The purpose of these Awards is to provide financial assistance and encourage suitably qualified Bermudians to further their studies in the arts. The Butterfield Bank Art
Festival and the Butterfield Bank Visual Art Awards are parts of the focus on community that is at the
heart of the culture of Butterfield Bank.”
