Butterfield Employees Donate Blood to Save Lives

Hamilton, Bermuda—3 October 2013: The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield”) today acknowledged the generosity of 14 of its employees in Bermuda who participated in a Butterfield Blood Donor Day on Thursday, 26 September 2013 at the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Sean Lee, Executive Vice President, Head of Bermuda Retail Banking, and one of the employees who donated blood, said, “In Bermuda, we’re fortunate to have world-class health care services available to us at KEMH. But the hospital’s ability to carry out emergency treatment and many procedures depends on the availability of donated blood. One out of three people will need blood in his or her lifetime. If it’s not you, you will likely have a friend, neighbour, family member or co-worker who needs a transfusion at some point. One pint of blood can be used to save up to three lives. There is always a need for donations.”

Mr. Lee continued, “The staff at the Blood Donor Centre are very helpful and accommodating, and they made things very comfortable for our employees—both veteran donors and first-timers. I would encourage other organisations to contact the Blood Donor Centre and set up employee donation days to help KEMH maintain its blood supplies.”

Butterfield thanks the following employees for their generous donations: Lydia Saraiva, Sharmaine Landy, Brenda Lister, Joanne Kippax, Tianny Greene, Eljahara Belboda, Robin Mullan, Mark Johnson, Sandra Ming, LaToya Viera, Tina Smith, Rhonda Joy, Sean Lee and Owen Martin.
