Butterfield Appoints Deputy Chairman of Hong Kong Operations

The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield”) today announced the appointment of Mr. Peter Hodson as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Butterfield Trust (FE) Limited, the Group’s Hong Kong based trust company.

Mr. Hodson is a qualified lawyer and experienced and accredited mediator.  Over his long and distinguished career, Mr. Hodson has concentrated on the private client trust area, being based for over 20 years in Hong Kong, and latterly on providing advisory services in relation to highly complex fiduciary structures, private trust companies and family offices, from Guernsey.

As a member of the Board of Butterfield Trust (FE) Limited, Mr. Hodson will help oversee the development of Butterfield’s trust capabilities in Hong Kong under the leadership of Nic Bentley, head of the Group’s operations in Hong Kong.

Mr. Bentley said, “Peter’s tremendous technical knowledge and his depth of experience in Hong Kong, as well as of the trust industry internationally, will contribute enormously to our fulfilling our ambitions for our Hong Kong trust business.  I welcome him to our Board.”

Bob Moore, Chairman of Butterfield Trust (FE) Limited and Butterfield executive responsible for Butterfield’s trust and international private office businesses in Europe and Asia, said, “We see Hong Kong as being an extremely important element in our Group’s trust and wider wealth management businesses in the coming years. We are delighted to welcome Peter to the Hong Kong Board.”

Mr. Hodson is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Courts of England and Wales and Hong Kong. He is a longstanding member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and was former chairman of the Hong Kong Trustees Association.  He has lectured on trust matters for both STEP and for Hong Kong University.

With operations in nine jurisdictions, Butterfield offers intimate local knowledge of many of the world’s premier trust jurisdictions. As well as trust and international private offices in Hong Kong, Butterfield also has trust operations in Bermuda, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Malta and Switzerland in addition to an international private office in the United Kingdom.  Butterfield Trust recently won Trust Company of the Year at this year’s Citywealth Magic Circle awards.
