For the third consecutive year, The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited
(“Butterfield”) and its employees have completed a back-to-school fundraising
drive. Proceeds are being used to purchase basic but essential school
supplies for over 500 primary and middle school students in need.
Students from 14 primary schools and four middle schools will receive
school supplies that include backpacks, lunchboxes, water-bottles, notebooks,
pencil cases, pens, pencils, hand sanitisers and key-rings. The number of
students in need of donated school supplies is substantially higher this year
than it has been in previous years, due to the current economic downturn.
Funds for the school supplies were generated from four Butterfield
employee denim days that raised just over $6,000, which was matched by the Bank.
A.F. Smith generously provided the school supplies at cost.
Michael Collins, Butterfield’s Senior Executive Vice President, Bermuda
said, “At Butterfield, we take seriously our commitment to supporting our
community, particularly during challenging economic times. On behalf of
the Bank’s senior management team, I’d like to thank the Butterfield employees
who organised and supported the back-to-school drive initiative, exceeding last
year’s drive by 60%.” Mr. Collins also noted, “Many thanks also to A.F. Smith
for providing the supplies at cost. The collaborative effort helped us achieve
even greater results.”
Tim Smith, President & CEO of A.F. Smith said, “We were pleased to be
able to help support Butterfield’s back-to-school drive and assist in providing
young people in our community with the tools they need to succeed in school.”
