Butterfield’s Back-to-School Drive Helps Needy Students Start Off New School Year

Butterfield helped 230 students and 30 families by holding a Back-to-School Supply Drive and Denim Day.

In just six weeks, Butterfield’s employees donated 166 backpacks full of school supplies for students from ten Primary Schools and two Middle Schools across the Island.

The students were identified by their school principals and/or counselors as needing a little extra assistance for the start of the 2009/2010 School Year.

Each student will receive:
- School bag (knapsack, etc.)
- Lunch box
- No. 2 pencils
- Pens
- Crayons/markers
- Pencil case
- Glue stick
- Ruler
- Notebook
- Hand sanitiser

An additional $3,565 was raised via an employee Denim Day with the Bank matching this donation, for a grand total of $7,130. The donation went towards the purchase of school supplies, an additional 64 backpacks for Hands of Love Mission, as well as food for 30 needy families.

Butterfield’s President & CEO, Alan Thompson, said he was pleased Butterfield employees came forward to support this very worthy cause.

“It is part of our Mission Statement to make valuable contributions to the communities we call home,” Mr. Thompson said. “Butterfield knows the most valuable contribution we can make to Bermuda is to invest in its young people. No matter what the current economic conditions are, it’s more important than ever to ensure the next generation has all the skills it requires to succeed.”
