BUTTERFIELD DONATES $20,000 TO SUPPORT PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Hamilton, Bermuda— 30 January 2019: The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield”) (NYSE: NTB | BSX: NTB.BH) has purchased $20,000 worth of school supplies for Bermuda’s public primary schools through local organisation Support Public Schools (“SPS”) Bermuda.
SPS aims to help provide Bermuda’s public school students with the equipment and supplies they need for a better quality education by connecting donors and teachers. Through SPS, public school teachers submit “wish lists” of items that will help improve students’ classroom experiences and foster better learning and development. These items can include basic supplies like pencils and art materials, and more specialised items like seating, learning games, music and sports equipment, colour printers and learning software. Donors select items they wish to contribute and pay for at discount prices from the website SPS.bm, and orders are filled and delivered to the schools by local vendors, A.F. Smith and Phoenix Stores Ltd.
Butterfield’s employees selected items to be purchased and delivered to all 18 public schools across the island with funds donated by the Bank. The supplies will be delivered on 26 and 27 February.
Michael Neff, Butterfield’s Managing Director in Bermuda said, “Education is the key to continued long-term prosperity for Bermuda and its people, and we are proud to have been able to help enhance the learning experience for public school students through SPS. We encourage other corporate and individual donors to consider doing the same.”
Speaking on behalf of the team of Butterfield employees who were involved in selecting and allocating supplies to local schools, Sonia Romero, Senior Learning and Development Specialist, said, “I particularly like the SPS initiative because it starts with requests from teachers, based on their students’ learning needs. Our team enjoyed looking through the website to select the items to donate that we felt would have a positive impact for the most children.”
“I’m proud to work at Butterfield and thankful for the opportunities the Bank provides for us to get involved in our community.”
Juliana Snelling, Founder of SPS Bermuda said, “We are grateful to Butterfield and its employees for helping outfit Bermuda’s public schools with equipment and materials to help hard-working teachers give their students the richest possible education experience. We hope their generosity inspires others to give. More information can be found on www.sps.bm or by e-mailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.”
