The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield” or the “Bank”) announced that, in a statement dated 8 May 2012, credit rating agency Fitch has affirmed Butterfield’s long-term issuer default rating (“IDR”) at A- and its short-term IDR at F1.  The Rating Outlook remains Stable.

The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield”) today announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its wholly-owned Barbados subsidiary, Butterfield Bank (Barbados) Limited, to Trinidad and Tobago-based First Citizens Bank Limited (“First Citizens”).  Pending regulatory approval, the sale is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2012 with gross proceeds, subject to normal adjustments, of US$ 45 million.

Butterfield & Son Limited (“Butterfield” or the “Bank”) today announced that Mr. Brendan McDonagh, who was previously Chief Executive Officer, HSBC North America and Group Managing Director, HSBC Holdings plc, will be nominated for election to its Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on 1 May 2012.  Subject to his election, the Directors intend to appoint Mr. McDonagh to the position of Executive Chairman of the Bank.
